A Pennsylvania volunteer fire chief has been hailed as a hero after he was killed while shielding his family during an attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a rally on Saturday.

Corey Comperatore, 50, tragically died after diving to protect his wife and two daughters when shots rang out at the event in Butler, outside Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro praised Comperatore on Sunday, stating, ‘Corey died a hero.’ His daughter Allyson described him as ‘the best dad a girl could ever ask for’ and a ‘real-life superhero’ on Facebook, confirming he ‘shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.’

State police confirmed two other individuals, 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, were also shot but are in stable condition. Governor Shapiro expressed his condolences to the Comperatore family, emphasizing Corey’s dedication to his community and family, and his excitement to attend the rally as an avid Trump supporter.

The governor condemned the violence, stating, ‘political disagreements can never, ever be addressed through violence.’ A GoFundMe campaign established for the Comperatore family has already raised over $830,000, underscoring the widespread grief and admiration for his selfless act.
