Attorney General Pam Bondi has dismissed at least 20 prosecutors and support staff members connected to former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into President Donald Trump, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News Saturday. The rapid firings signal a significant shake-up within the Department of Justice.

Many of the remaining prosecutors associated with the previous probes had already been ousted by senior department leadership prior to this latest wave of dismissals. A spokesperson for the Department of Justice has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the terminations.

Sources indicate that some individuals identified through the Justice Department’s “weaponization working group” and subsequently fired may have served in support roles, such as litigation assistants or U.S. marshals, rather than having primary involvement in the prosecutions themselves.

These widespread firings have reportedly sent a “chill” throughout the DOJ’s career workforce, which had previously experienced similar dramatic purges and reassignments during the initial period of Trump’s presidency.
