Erin Patterson, an Australian woman, has been found guilty on all counts in a sensational case involving the poisoning deaths of three elderly relatives of her estranged husband. The jury, after a week of deliberation, also convicted her of the attempted murder of a fourth individual.

Patterson was found to have lured her mother-in-law Gail Patterson, father-in-law Donald Patterson, and Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, to her home for lunch. Prosecutors successfully argued she poisoned them with individual servings of Beef Wellington containing deadly death cap mushrooms. The incident, which occurred in 2023, gripped the nation.

The 50-year-old was also convicted of the attempted murder of Ian Wilkinson, Heather’s husband, who survived the meal at Patterson’s Leongatha home, located southeast of Melbourne. Patterson had maintained her innocence, pleading not guilty to the four charges and claiming the deaths were accidental.

She now faces a maximum life sentence and will be sentenced at a later date. Patterson retains the right to appeal the verdict. Her defense lawyer, Colin Mandy, and a spokesperson for the victims’ family declined to comment outside court, while Victoria Police Detective Dean Thomas thanked investigators for their work on the complex case.
