Israel Dispatches Negotiators to Qatar Amidst Gaza Ceasefire Talks and Hamas Demands

Israel has confirmed it will send a negotiating team to Qatar today for indirect talks with Hamas, aiming to advance the latest proposal for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal. The decision comes despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing Hamas’s requested amendments to the deal as “unacceptable.”
Hamas had previously indicated a “positive response” to the proposed 60-day ceasefire, but sought significant changes, including a guarantee that hostilities would not resume if permanent truce talks failed. Mediators from Qatar, the US, and Egypt face a challenging task in bridging these remaining differences in Doha.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency reporting that Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least 35 Palestinians on Saturday. This included an incident in al-Mawasi where seven people, including a doctor and his three children, were killed in tent bombings. Additionally, two American employees of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were reportedly wounded in a grenade attack in Khan Younis, an incident Israel and the US have attributed to Hamas.
International pressure for a resolution is mounting. US President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Netanyahu on Monday, has expressed optimism about the prospects for an agreement. In Israel, families of the hostages held in Gaza staged a rally in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, imploring leaders to secure a comprehensive deal that would bring all captives home.
