New details are emerging regarding the ongoing animosity between former President Donald Trump and tech titan Elon Musk, with author Michael Wolff claiming Trump boasted about leaking information on Musk’s alleged drug use to The New York Times. According to Wolff, Trump has been discussing his former ally extensively in phone calls with associates, taking credit for a May 2024 Times report detailing Musk’s alleged use of substances including ketamine, Adderall, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms.

Musk, who supported Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign with significant financial contributions, has denied the drug allegations. The renewed friction between the two prominent figures comes as Musk recently reignited their feud by publicly criticizing a substantial spending bill that Trump is reportedly pushing through Congress. This prompted a public threat from Trump, who suggested Musk’s government subsidies could be jeopardized, potentially forcing him to return to South Africa.

Wolff, known for his books on Trump, stated that Trump’s calls focused on questioning Musk’s mental state and drug habits, allegedly claiming, “actually, we dropped a dime to The New York Times … on Elon’s drug taking.” While Wolff could not confirm the veracity of Trump’s claim about being the source, he noted Trump’s assertion of credit for the story. The New York Times previously stated its report was based on interviews with over a dozen individuals and private messages.

The escalating “blood score” feud, as Wolff describes it, has led to speculation about Musk’s future political actions. Musk has threatened to form an “America Party” and fund primary challengers against lawmakers who campaign on fiscal conservatism but vote for increased spending, particularly if the “Big Beautiful Bill” passes. Trump, meanwhile, is reportedly pushing for the bill’s passage by July 4, urging GOP unity amidst internal party struggles.
