In a significant disclosure today, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released an updated forecast detailing Apple’s extensive roadmap for its headset and smart glasses initiatives. According to Kuo, the tech giant is aggressively pursuing the next major trend in consumer electronics, with at least seven distinct head-worn devices currently in development, spanning both the Vision series and new smart glasses variants.

Kuo’s report outlines a clear product timeline from 2025 through 2028. The Vision Pro lineup is set for an update, with an M5 Vision Pro expected to enter mass production in Q3 2025. This will be followed by the rumored, more affordable Vision Air in Q3 2027, promising a 40% lighter design and an iPhone-class processor. A second-generation Vision Pro, featuring a new design and a ‘Mac-class’ processor, is slated for mass production in 2H 2028, aiming to be significantly lighter and cheaper than the original.

Beyond the Vision series, Apple is also developing its first dedicated Apple Glasses, expected to begin mass production in Q2 2027. These smart glasses are anticipated to include voice control, gesture recognition, photo/video recording, and AI-powered environmental sensing, with multiple frame options. Furthermore, Kuo indicates two XR smart glasses with built-in displays are underway for 2028, utilizing Liquid Crystal on Silicon and waveguide technology. A previously planned cable-bound display accessory for Mac and iPhone has reportedly been paused due to weight challenges.

Kuo emphasizes that Apple is playing a long game, expecting the company’s entry to significantly expand the smart glasses market beyond 10 million units by 2027, potentially leapfrogging competitors with superior technology despite a later market entry.
