Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will proceed with his independent bid for New York City Mayor in November, a source close to his campaign confirmed to ABC News. This decision comes despite his concession to rival Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2025.

Cuomo had qualified to run on the “Fight and Deliver” independent ballot line back in May, a move he previously stated was aimed at engaging voters disillusioned with the Democratic Party. Candidates had until the close of Friday, June 27, to withdraw from any independent ballot lines they had secured.

Following his primary defeat, Cuomo indicated he would assess the situation, telling supporters on Tuesday, “Tonight was not our night; tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night… We’re going to take a look and make some decisions.” He further confirmed on Wednesday that he was on the independent line and would analyze primary numbers, which the NYC Board of Elections is set to begin releasing on July 1.

Cuomo’s entry into the mayoral race follows his resignation as governor four years prior amidst allegations of sexual harassment, which he has denied. The November general election is shaping up to be a multi-candidate race, with incumbent Democratic Mayor Eric Adams, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden also slated to appear on the ballot.
