A significant development has emerged in the aftermath of the devastating Palm Springs fertility clinic bombing. Daniel Park, a 32-year-old Kent, Washington resident accused of conspiring in the attack, has died while in federal custody.

The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed Park’s death, stating he was found unresponsive at approximately 7:30 a.m. at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles, California. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by staff and emergency medical services, Park was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. Federal Bureau of Prisons officials reported no other injuries to staff or inmates, and assured the public was never in danger.

Park had been transferred to MDC Los Angeles on June 13 after being indicted for malicious destruction of property. He was apprehended at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York following the May 17, 2025, explosion at the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic in Palm Springs. The attack, carried out by Guy Edward Bartkus, who died in the blast, caused extensive damage, gutting the clinic and shattering windows in nearby buildings.

Prosecutors alleged that Park played a crucial role by purchasing large quantities of ammonium nitrate, a chemical frequently used in explosives, and sending it to Bartkus. The bombing, described by the FBI as one of the largest ever investigated in Southern California, injured at least four people and has been classified as an intentional act of terrorism.

Investigators linked Bartkus’s actions to extreme “anti-natalism” and “pro-mortalism” ideologies, which oppose childbirth and population growth. His online writings and alleged manifesto suggested he targeted the clinic due to a belief that bringing life into the world causes suffering. The investigation also revealed Bartkus’s attempt to livestream the bombing and his deep emotional distress following the April death of his best friend, Sophie Tinney, who shared similar anti-natalist views.

With Park’s death, the legal proceedings surrounding the accomplice’s role in this ideologically driven attack take an unexpected turn, though authorities have previously stated they believe Bartkus acted alone in carrying out the bombing.
