Overnight attacks on June 23, 2025, by Russian drones and missiles resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure damage across multiple regions of Ukraine. The attacks targeted residential areas, hospitals, and sports infrastructure.

In Kyiv, the Shevchenkivskyi district sustained the most severe damage, with a section of a five-story apartment building collapsing. Initial reports indicated six to seven deaths in this district alone, with at least ten others rescued from a nearby damaged high-rise building, including a pregnant woman. The Kyiv city military administration reported more than two dozen injuries, including four children. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that rescue workers continued searching the rubble for additional casualties. The overall death toll in Kyiv from the attacks was initially reported as seven, later rising to at least six or seven.

Beyond Kyiv, the attacks caused casualties in several other regions. In the Chernihiv region, a Russian short-range drone attack killed at least three people and wounded eleven others, including four teenagers. In the Bila Tserkva area, southwest of Kyiv, one person was killed and eight were injured. In the Kherson Oblast, one person was killed and six wounded due to Russian drone, artillery, and air attacks. These attacks damaged numerous buildings and infrastructure, including apartment buildings, houses, a gas pipeline, and vehicles. In Donetsk Oblast, two residents were killed and five wounded in Russian attacks on Siversk and Myrne.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 368 aerial weapons, including 352 attack drones, 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, and 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted or jammed 354 of these weapons. The attacks came nearly a week after a previous combined Russian attack on Kyiv that killed 28 people.

Eyewitness accounts described the scene in Kyiv as chaotic, with dozens of vehicles damaged or destroyed by flying debris. Volunteers assisted in the cleanup efforts, removing broken glass and other debris. One resident, Oleksii Pozychaniuk, recounted hearing the approaching rocket and experiencing the impact, resulting in shattered windows and a fire in his building.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Russia, North Korea, and Iran as a “coalition of murderers,” citing preliminary data suggesting the use of North Korean missiles in the Kyiv strike and Iran’s provision of drones to Russia. He stated that Ukraine’s defense and new ways to pressure Russia would be the main topics of his visit to the United Kingdom.

The total number of civilian deaths across Ukraine from the June 23rd attacks is reported to be at least 13, with at least 57 injuries. These figures may not be entirely comprehensive, as casualty counts are still being assessed in some affected areas.
