We’ve all been there: bombarded by endless spam texts from businesses and services. That annoying buzz from your phone, only to find another unwanted message about a past purchase or a political donation you made months ago. The struggle to unsubscribe is real.

But there’s good news for Android users. Google Messages is rolling out a game-changing update that simplifies the process of silencing those pesky text message spammers. Imagine: a single tap to unsubscribe from unwanted texts, eliminating the frustration of hunting down hidden unsubscribe links or resorting to sending “STOP” messages.

Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority recently discovered this helpful new feature. He received a seemingly redundant AMC Theatres text confirming his Princess Mononoke tickets—a message he already had confirmed via email and the app. Instead of simply deleting it, he found a clear “Unsubscribe” option.

This new feature offers several ways to unsubscribe. You can select pre-set options explaining why you’re unsubscribing, or provide a custom explanation. You even have the option to report the sender as spam to Google Messages—helping to prevent others from receiving similar unwanted messages.

The feature currently works best with messages from short codes (five or six-digit numbers) commonly used by businesses for subscriptions. It’s also confirmed to be coming to RCS Business Messages. While the rollout is gradual, starting with Google Messages beta users, even without this feature, sending a “STOP” text usually works.

So, next time your phone buzzes with an unwanted text, check for the new unsubscribe option in Google Messages. It might just save you from a future barrage of unwanted messages. This is a small update with a big impact, making our digital lives a little less cluttered and a lot less frustrating.
