A doctor implicated in the death of Matthew Perry, the beloved “Friends” star, has agreed to plead guilty to distributing the ketamine that contributed to his passing. Dr. Salvador Plasencia will plead guilty to four counts of distribution, facing a potential 40-year prison sentence.

The plea comes after three other defendants, including another doctor, entered plea agreements in exchange for their cooperation. Plasencia’s trial, initially scheduled for August, has been averted by this development. His attorney has yet to comment.

Court filings reveal a disturbing exchange between Plasencia and another doctor, Mark Chavez, where Plasencia allegedly texted, “I wonder how much this moron will pay,” before meeting Chavez to obtain ketamine. They exchanged at least four vials of the drug, allegedly for resale to Perry.

Perry, who battled addiction for years, obtained ketamine from Plasencia in the month leading up to his death on October 28, 2023. The medical examiner cited ketamine as the primary cause of death. Plasencia allegedly sought to become Perry’s main supplier of the drug, even discussing the possibility of continuous supply with Chavez.

While Plasencia supplied a significant amount of the ketamine in Perry’s final weeks, another defendant, Jasmine Sangha, is accused of providing the fatal dose. Sangha, who has pleaded not guilty, remains the only defendant not to enter a plea agreement and will stand trial in August.

Perry’s death shocked fans worldwide. The actor, who played Chandler Bing in the iconic sitcom “Friends,” achieved global fame during the show’s ten-season run (1994-2004). His struggle with addiction was a long and public battle.
