Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declared on Friday that federal immigration enforcement is set to expand in the Chicago area, signaling an intent to acquire additional property in west suburban Broadview for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

During her visit to the federal ICE facility at 1930 Beach St., Noem met with U.S. Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino and other federal agents. She conveyed a message of unwavering support, stating, “We’re not just here, we’re here to stay, and we’re expanding and we’re going to make this city safe again.” She assured agents that, despite ongoing protests, the American people and Chicago residents are grateful for their efforts.

Noem’s comments, which included a commitment to prosecute individuals advocating violence against federal agents, were exclusively recorded by conservative influencer Benny Johnson, who was granted embedded access. She did not engage with local Chicago media during her visit.

The Secretary’s visit was marked by a contentious incident when she and federal agents were denied entry to Broadview’s municipal building, reportedly to use restrooms. Noem criticized the refusal, linking it to a lack of cooperation from local leaders and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. “As much as these local leaders and governors talk about cooperating and having the backs of our law enforcement officers, this is what we have to put up with every single day,” she remarked.
