The southeastern United States is on high alert as Tropical Depression 9 continues to strengthen, posing a significant threat of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding early next week. With the potential to reach hurricane intensity, the storm is currently traversing the Caribbean and is projected to impact coastal Georgia through the Carolinas and into the southern Mid-Atlantic states.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has already declared a state of emergency, urging residents to prepare for widespread impacts across the entire state. “While the storm’s arrival, speed, and intensity remain hard to predict, we do know that it will bring significant wind, heavy rainfall, and flooding,” McMaster stated, emphasizing the urgency for immediate preparations.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the system is expected to intensify into a tropical storm as it moves over eastern Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Hispaniola through the weekend. Forecasters warn it could be at or near hurricane strength upon approaching the U.S. coastline. Residents are strongly advised to closely monitor official forecasts and alerts as the situation develops rapidly.
