After a week-long suspension, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has been reinstated by two of America’s largest local TV station owners, Sinclair and Nexstar. The decision means the late-night talk show will once again air across dozens of ABC-affiliated stations nationwide, following its brief removal over controversial comments made by Kimmel.

The controversy stemmed from Kimmel’s remarks regarding the recent killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Kimmel had appeared to link the shooter to supporters of Donald Trump, prompting a swift backlash and a threat from the Trump-appointed broadcast watchdog chair to revoke ABC’s license, which led to ABC temporarily suspending the show itself.

Both Sinclair and Nexstar cited ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC and parent company Disney as the reason for lifting the ban. Sinclair noted “thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers and community leaders” influenced their decision, while Nexstar appreciated ABC’s “constructive approach to addressing our concerns” and reaffirmed its commitment to the First Amendment. This resolution highlights the complex power dynamics between national networks and local affiliates.
