Deadly Dallas ICE Facility Shooting: ‘Anti-ICE’ Message Found on Ammunition Amid Ideological Motive Probe

Two immigration detainees have died and another is critically injured following a sniper attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) center in Dallas, Texas. Authorities report the gunman opened fire indiscriminately at the facility and a nearby unmarked van before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No law enforcement officers were harmed in the incident.
FBI Director Kash Patel shared a photo on X of unused ammunition recovered from the scene, revealing one casing with the phrase “ANTI-ICE” inscribed on it. Patel stated that while the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence points to an ideological motive behind the attack, describing it as one in a series of “despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement.”
FBI special agent Joe Rothrock confirmed at a news conference that rounds found near the suspect contained “messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” and the agency is investigating the incident as an “act of targeted violence.” Dallas police’s preliminary findings indicate the shooter fired from an adjacent building. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) clarified that the target was an ICE field office used for short-term processing, not a long-term detention facility.
Joshua Johnson, acting director of the Dallas ICE office, expressed concern over recurring violence, stating, “The rhetoric has to stop.” Texas Senator Ted Cruz, also present at the news conference, condemned “politically motivated violence,” urging an end to divisive rhetoric and demonization of political opponents, emphasizing that such language has “real consequences.”
