The location for Donald Trump’s future presidential library has been officially settled, with downtown Miami selected as the site. The library will be housed on land currently owned by Miami-Dade College, chosen for its proximity to the historic Freedom Tower and its waterfront setting.

The formal dedication of the land is scheduled for a vote by the Florida Cabinet next week. The vote, which includes Governor Ron DeSantis and three other Republican statewide elected officials, is anticipated to be unanimous, kickstarting the official development process for the Trump library.

Trump’s team, including Eric Trump and top adviser Steve Witkoff, had been evaluating Florida sites for months, with previous considerations including Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University. Governor DeSantis had actively campaigned for Florida to host the library. Ultimately, the Miami-Dade College site emerged as the final choice, with its symbolic connection to the Freedom Tower playing a significant role.

Florida Attorney General James Uthemeier, a member of the Florida Cabinet, publicly endorsed the decision in a recent video, stating, “I can think of no better location to tell the story of Donald Trump. A story of strength, one of redemption, one of victory, and one of sacrifice for the American people.” He highlighted the Freedom Tower’s historical significance as a processing center for Cuban refugees, underscoring the site’s resonance as a symbol of freedom.

The project envisions the library as part of a larger development that could include an adjacent hotel, a first for a presidential library. To facilitate its construction, the GOP-dominated Florida state Legislature passed legislation earlier this year, removing local authorities’ oversight on presidential library construction, a move aimed at streamlining the process.
