Samsung has officially commenced the rollout of its highly anticipated One UI 8 update, based on Android 16, for the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The initial release is currently live for users in South Korea, with a broader global distribution anticipated in the coming days.

This major software upgrade brings a host of enhancements, including a new 90:10 split-screen ratio for improved multitasking, an upgraded Samsung DeX experience built on Android 16’s Desktop Mode, and enhanced support for Now Bar applications, alongside crucial security improvements. The update for beta testers is around 400MB, while the stable release is expected to be closer to 4GB.

The deployment for the S24 series and 2024 foldables follows closely on the heels of the One UI 8 release for the Galaxy S25 series. Notably, Samsung is positioning itself as the first non-Google OEM to deliver Android 16 to its flagship devices, marking a significant turnaround after a delayed Android 15 (One UI 7) rollout earlier this year. While availability in regions like the U.S. and Europe is yet to be confirmed, the launch in Samsung’s home country suggests a swift expansion to other markets.
