US President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping have reportedly reached a significant agreement on the future of TikTok’s US operations, a development confirmed during a recent phone call between the two leaders. The deal is expected to see TikTok’s US business sold to a consortium of American investors, with Oracle among the firms potentially involved, allowing the popular app to continue operating in the United States.

This resolution comes after a series of delays in implementing a ban on TikTok, with the most recent deadline extended to December. President Trump praised the call as “productive,” noting Xi’s approval of the arrangement. China’s state news agency, Xinhua, reiterated its stance on market-based negotiations and called for a non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies in the US.

Beyond the TikTok agreement, the leaders also finalized plans for an in-person meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled to take place in South Korea next month. Further diplomatic exchanges are on the horizon, with Trump indicating a trip to China early next year and Xi expected to visit the US at an “appropriate time.”

Despite the breakthrough, some US lawmakers, including Representative John Moolenar, have voiced concerns regarding the deal’s potential reliance on ByteDance’s algorithm, citing ongoing worries about the Chinese Communist Party’s influence. This agreement follows earlier discussions this year between Trump and Xi on issues such as rare earth mineral exports, marking a continued effort to manage complex US-China relations amidst various unresolved trade and tech disputes.
