Breaking: Three Pennsylvania Police Officers Killed in Stalker Ambush

Three police officers from the Northern York County Regional Police Department were tragically killed in a violent ambush Wednesday afternoon in North Codorus, Pennsylvania. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Matthew James Ruth, who was being sought on stalking charges, opened fire on officers arriving at his ex-girlfriend’s home.
York County District Attorney Tim Barker confirmed that officers responded to the residence after a woman reported seeing a man, believed to be Ruth, looking into the home with binoculars. Upon arrival, officers found the door unlocked and were immediately met with gunfire from Ruth, who was armed with an high-powered rifle. Three officers—Detective Sgt. Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser—were killed at the scene. A gunfight ensued, during which Ruth also wounded a sheriff’s deputy before being shot and killed by police.
Authorities revealed that Ruth had been sought for misdemeanor warrants, and his ex-girlfriend suspected his involvement in her car being set on fire in August. Investigators later discovered the ex-girlfriend’s dog had been shot dead in the basement of the home.
The community is in mourning, with Governor Josh Shapiro lamenting the violence and police departments across the region expressing their grief. Chief Dave Lash praised the fallen officers, stating, “Each of these men represented the best of policing. They served with professionalism, dedication and courage.” The incident marks one of Pennsylvania’s deadliest days for law enforcement this century, prompting an outpouring of support and sorrow from residents.
