Apple Unleashes macOS Tahoe 26 with Liquid Glass UI, Enhanced AI, and iPhone Call Integration

Apple has officially rolled out macOS Tahoe 26 to all compatible MacBooks and Mac desktops, bringing a significant refresh to the desktop operating system. First teased at WWDC 25 in June and refined through extensive developer and public betas, this update marks a pivotal moment, especially for older Intel-based Macs with the T2 Security Chip, as it will be their final major macOS release.

The most striking change in Tahoe 26 is its dramatic UI overhaul, dubbed ‘Liquid Glass.’ This new design language introduces an extensive use of transparent effects across windows, buttons, and notifications, giving various UI elements a glossy, see-through appearance. The menu bar now boasts complete transparency, subtly enhancing the perceived display size.

Productivity receives a substantial boost with an upgraded Spotlight search tool. Tahoe’s Spotlight intelligently ranks results based on relevance and allows users to perform direct app actions, such as sending emails or creating notes, without needing to open the applications themselves. For organizational enthusiasts, new customization options enable changing folder colors or adding emojis for better visual distinction.

Seamless integration with the iPhone experience arrives with the new Phone app. This application mirrors its iOS counterpart, routing incoming calls from your iPhone directly to your Mac. Users gain access to call recents and voicemails, alongside advanced iOS features like Call Screening, which can automatically handle calls from unknown numbers, and Hold Assist, designed to wait on hold until a live person responds. Leveraging Apple Intelligence, the new Live Translation feature offers real-time translation for text, audio during phone and FaceTime calls, and even chats within Messages, making cross-language communication effortless.
