The recent brutal beheading of an Indian motel manager in Dallas has prompted a strong condemnation and a renewed call for tougher immigration policies from former President Donald Trump. Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, 50, was tragically killed on September 10 at the Downtown Suites Motel, allegedly by his co-worker, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, following a dispute over a broken washing machine. The assault, witnessed by Nagamallaiah’s wife and child, led to Cobos-Martinez’s immediate arrest and a murder charge.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump vowed, “The time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER under my watch.” He criticized the Biden administration, stating that Cobos-Martinez, an undocumented Cuban immigrant with a final order of removal, had been previously arrested for multiple crimes, including alleged child abuse, but was “released back into society because Cuba declined to accept his return.” According to the Department of Homeland Security, Cobos-Martinez was released from a Dallas detention center in January under an order of supervision due to Cuba’s refusal to accept him given his criminal history.

Nagamallaiah, originally from Karnataka, India, had moved to the U.S. in 2018. His funeral was held on September 13 in Flower Mound, Texas, as a fundraiser supporting his family has already surpassed $321,000. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Cobos-Martinez at the Dallas County Jail.
