CHICAGO – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced the launch of ‘Operation Midway Blitz,’ a targeted enforcement action by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) aimed at apprehending criminal illegal aliens in Illinois. The operation is being conducted in honor of Katie Abraham, who was killed in a drunk driving hit-and-run by an illegal alien.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated the operation specifically targets individuals who have allegedly exploited Illinois’s sanctuary policies, which critics argue have allowed dangerous criminals, including gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers, to remain on the streets of Chicago and other communities. McLaughlin asserted that Governor Pritzker’s sanctuary policies have made Chicago a magnet for criminals, posing a significant risk to public safety.

The DHS official delivered a stern warning, echoing a message from President Trump and Secretary Noem: “no city is a safe haven for criminal illegal aliens. If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, deport you, and you will never return.”

The announcement highlighted several individuals, including alleged Tren de Aragua gang members, with serious criminal histories who were reportedly released back into Illinois communities despite ICE detainers. These individuals include Gabriel J Valle Galvez (Latin King gang member with multiple assault and DUI convictions), Javier Carmelo Casillas Gomez (convicted of procuring prostitution and drug offenses), and Dany Daniel Hernandez Colina (Tren de Aragua gang member with repeat burglary arrests). The agency emphasized that many of these individuals remain at large, having been released by Cook County Jail or other Illinois correctional facilities despite federal requests for transfer.
