Google Unveils Pixel Watch 4 with Sleeker Design, Gemini AI, and Enhanced Health Features

Google officially took the wraps off its highly anticipated Pixel Watch 4 today at the Made by Google event, showcasing a refined design and significant upgrades. The new smartwatch maintains the signature teardrop glass aesthetic of its predecessors but now features a domed display beneath the glass, enhancing its elegant curve and visual appeal.
First impressions highlight the new curved display, which is not only larger and brighter but also boasts slimmer bezels than the previous Pixel Watch 3. Internally, the Watch 4 packs a bigger battery and enhanced AI capabilities, including immediate access to Google’s conversational assistant, Gemini. Available in two sizes—41mm and 45mm—pricing remains consistent at $349 for the smaller model and $399 for the larger (LTE an additional $100). Preorders are open now, with shipments slated to begin on October 9.
The Pixel Watch 4’s Actua 360 domed display offers 10% more active area and 15% smaller bezels than the Watch 3, along with a boosted maximum screen brightness of 3,000 nits. While the curved glass raises some durability questions, Google assures robustness with aerospace-grade aluminum housing and Corning Gorilla Glass. Importantly, the Watch 4 is fully serviceable, allowing for display or battery replacement if needed.
Under the hood, the device features a new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor with a Cortex-M55 coprocessor, a significant leap from last year’s model. This new Qualcomm chipset introduces emergency satellite communication, a first for a wearable. The Watch 4 runs Wear OS 6.0, offering improved efficiency and deeper integration with Gemini for tasks like asking questions, sending texts, and controlling smart home devices. Gemini also powers a new personal AI health coach, launching in preview this October for all Fitbit and Pixel Watch users.
New fitness features include pickleball and basketball exercise modes, real-time cycling metrics streaming to the Fitbit app, and AI activity recognition. An improved skin temperature sensor and dual-frequency GPS further enhance health and location tracking. The Watch 4 continues to leverage AI for Daily Readiness Score, Cardio Load, and Target Load metrics, and offers AI-powered running coaching through Fitbit Premium. Battery life has also seen an improvement, with Google promising up to 30 hours for the smaller model and 40 hours for the larger, alongside a redesigned upright charger for quicker power-ups.
