Six individuals have died following a tragic incident at a Colorado dairy, with initial investigations pointing to toxic gas exposure as the cause. Emergency responders recovered six bodies after being called to a ‘confined space rescue’ around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The accident occurred at Prospect Valley Dairy on Weld County Road 18, north of Denver. Jolene Weimer, deputy chief coroner for Weld County, confirmed that the deaths are being probed for potential toxic gas exposure within a confined space.

Dairy Farmers of America, which counts the Keenesburg farm as a member, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “We are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and most sincere condolences go out to the friends and families of the deceased,” the organization stated, adding that further details were not immediately available.

Three other people affected by the incident were treated at a UCHealth hospital in Greeley and have since been released. While the Weld County Sheriff’s Office responded, it is not the lead agency, and no criminal activity has been discovered at this early stage.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased, as families were still being notified as of Thursday. Autopsies are slated to be completed, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been contacted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
