A Peruvian woman is facing the grim prospect of the death penalty in Indonesia after being arrested in Bali for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine and ecstasy into the popular resort island. Police announced the arrest on Tuesday, revealing the suspect, identified only by her initials N.S., was apprehended on August 12 upon her arrival at Bali’s international airport from Qatar.
Customs officers grew suspicious of the 42-year-old and, following consultation with police, conducted a thorough search. Authorities claim they discovered 3.1 pounds of cocaine hidden inside a sex toy concealed in her genitals, as well as additional drugs in her underwear. Dozens of ecstasy pills were also reportedly found.
According to Bali police narcotics unit director Radiant, the woman told investigators she was recruited via the dark web in April and promised $20,000 to transport the illicit substances to Indonesia.
