Grammarly has officially rolled out a significant design overhaul, introducing a new document-based interface and an array of advanced AI-powered features. Built upon the technology of Coda, a productivity startup acquired last year, the revamped platform aims to enhance productivity for students and professionals alike.

The new interface adopts a block-first approach, allowing users to seamlessly insert tables, columns, lists, and rich text blocks for enhanced organization and highlighting. A prominent sidebar now hosts an AI assistant capable of summarizing text, answering questions, and providing real-time writing suggestions.

A suite of new AI tools is at the forefront of this update, including ‘Reader Reactions’ for persona-based feedback, an ‘AI Grader’ for academic assessments, a ‘Citation Finder’ to streamline research, and a ‘Paraphraser’ for tone modification. In a notable strategic move, Grammarly has also integrated agents designed to detect both plagiarism and AI-generated content, aiming to strike a balance between empowering users with AI and maintaining academic and professional integrity.

Luke Behnke, VP of enterprise product at Grammarly, acknowledged to TechCrunch the evolving nature of AI detection but emphasized the company’s commitment to accuracy, stating their tool provides students with a crucial self-assessment window before submission. This major update follows Grammarly’s acquisition of email client Superhuman last month and a substantial $1 billion funding round in May, signaling a strong push into advanced AI integration across its product ecosystem.
