A devastating mass shooting at a Crown Heights hookah lounge early Sunday morning has left three people dead and nine others injured, according to the NYPD. The incident, which unfolded around 3:30 a.m. at the Taste of the City Lounge near Franklin Avenue and Carroll Street, is currently under active investigation.

Police reported that multiple gunmen, possibly as many as four, opened fire, turning the popular establishment into a scene of chaos. Investigators recovered a staggering 42 shell casings from 9mm and .40 caliber firearms at the scene. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch indicated that the shooting preliminarily appears to be gang-related, noting that approximately 60 percent of shootings in New York City have gang affiliations.

The three fatalities were identified as men aged 19, 27, and 35. Nine other individuals, ranging in age from 19 to 61 and including three women, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Eyewitness James Jones, who lives across the street and returned to the scene shortly after the attack, described it as “a bloodbath,” adding, “This was like a warzone.” Authorities are yet to identify the shooters as the investigation continues.
