A Salt Lake County jury has found Nicholas Alahverdian, also known to authorities as Nicholas Rossi, guilty of rape in Utah. The conviction comes after a three-day trial, concluding on Wednesday, for the man accused of faking his own death and fleeing the United States to evade sexual assault allegations.

Rossi, whose sensational case has garnered international attention, is scheduled for sentencing on October 20. He faces a potential sentence ranging from five years to life in prison, according to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill praised the survivor’s courage, stating, “We are grateful to the survivor in this case for her willingness to come forward, years after this attack took place. It took courage and bravery to take the stand and confront her attacker to hold him accountable.”

This conviction is the latest development in a complex legal saga. Rossi, who was arrested in Scotland in 2022 under the name Arthur Knight, had previously claimed to be an Irish orphan and denied his true identity, despite an online obituary from 2020 stating he died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Prosecutors revealed he admitted his true identity under oath last year.

Alahverdian faces a second rape trial in Utah County, scheduled for September, further extending the legal proceedings against him.
