New evidence suggests Apple is actively developing the next iteration of its Studio Display, with recent code discoveries pointing towards an early 2026 launch. MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris reportedly uncovered references to the upcoming Studio Display 2, codenamed J427, within Apple’s software code.

This ongoing development aligns with existing rumors of a Q1 2026 release, potentially alongside new Macs featuring the M5 chip. While concrete details remain scarce, speculation points to the Studio Display 2 incorporating mini-LED backlighting, which would deliver significant improvements in brightness, contrast, and color accuracy.

Further code analysis also revealed a mysterious codename, J527. While its exact purpose is unclear, it could represent a second variant of the Studio Display 2, echoing earlier reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman about Apple exploring multiple display options. The original Studio Display was released in 2022, making a refresh highly anticipated.
