In a pivotal decision, Israel’s security cabinet has reportedly given its approval for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to establish full military control over the Gaza Strip. The late-night meeting, extending into the early hours of August 8, proceeded despite cautionary advice from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized that while the immediate objective is to capture the entire Strip and eradicate Hamas, Israel has no intention of long-term occupation or annexation. He outlined a vision for post-Hamas Gaza where civil governance would be transferred to “non-PA Arab forces,” a principle he stated is aligned with understandings reached with the United States. The military operation is anticipated to span four to five months, initially concentrating on Gaza City and the central region of the Strip.
