Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has officially announced her candidacy for Governor of Tennessee, declaring her intention to establish the Volunteer State as “America’s conservative leader” for future generations.

In a video posted to X on Wednesday, Blackburn emphasized her strong alignment with former President Donald Trump, featuring his image prominently before asserting, “Trump is back, America is blessed, and Tennessee — better than ever.” She stated, “Here in the Volunteer State, we always lead the way. And that’s why I am announcing my candidacy for governor.”

Blackburn’s platform centers on key conservative principles, including promises to stimulate job growth, boost energy production, and reform education by “empowering parents, not the deep state.” She also committed to strict immigration enforcement, declaring plans to “deport illegal aliens ‘whether it takes planes, trains or starships,'” and affirmed her stance on “valuing life.” Addressing the debate on transgender athletes, she asserted, “we’ll define our boys and girls the way God made them.”

If elected, Blackburn would make history as Tennessee’s first female governor. Her entry into the race sets the stage for a competitive primary, which already includes Representative John Rose. The incumbent Governor, Bill Lee, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. The field could expand further, with reports last week indicating Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had discussed a potential run, though a Defense Department spokesperson denied these claims.

A veteran of Tennessee politics with a quarter-century in elected office, Senator Blackburn has cultivated a close relationship with former President Trump and taken leading roles on national conservative issues. Should she win the governorship, she would vacate her Senate seat, to which she was re-elected in November, and would have the authority to appoint a temporary successor before a special election.
