Traverse City, MI – A horrific attack at a Walmart in Traverse City on Saturday afternoon left eleven people injured, with six currently in critical condition. Authorities swiftly apprehended a 42-year-old male suspect who allegedly used a folding knife in what officials described as a ‘brutal act’ of random violence.

The incident unfolded around 4:43 p.m. on July 26, 2025, when the assailant reportedly began stabbing shoppers near the checkout area. Grand Traverse Sheriff Michael Shea confirmed that victims include six males and five females, all receiving treatment at Munson Medical Center. As of Saturday evening, six victims remained in critical condition and five in serious condition.

Sheriff Shea praised the swift response of a deputy, who arrived within three minutes of a 911 call, and credited ‘citizen involvement’ for aiding in the suspect’s apprehension. The suspect is believed to have acted alone, with no further threats to the public.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her concern, stating she was in touch with law enforcement, while FBI personnel have also responded to provide support to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues. Walmart issued a statement condemning the violence and thanking first responders.
