Vehicle Rams Crowd Outside LA Nightclub, Injuring 30; Driver Shot

LOS ANGELES – A chaotic scene unfolded early Saturday outside a Los Angeles performance venue when a vehicle plowed into a crowd of people, injuring 30, and the driver was subsequently found to have been shot. Authorities are actively searching for a suspected gunman who fled the East Hollywood scene.
The incident occurred along Santa Monica Boulevard as a line of mostly female individuals waited to enter Vermont Hollywood. A Nissan Versa struck the crowd, a food vending cart, and a valet stand. Twenty-three victims were transported to hospitals and trauma centers, with seven in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Police have not yet determined if the driver was shot before or after the crash, nor the motive for driving into the crowd. Paramedics discovered the driver’s gunshot wound, and he was also hospitalized. Police have not released his identity or condition. Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like gunshots after the vehicle came to a halt, and a fight reportedly broke out prior to the crash. The suspect is described as a man in a blue jersey with a silver revolver. The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting a large-scale investigation into the incident.
