In the letter, Boelter allegedly confessed to the shootings and made bizarre claims of off-the-books military training, international missions, and even an alleged solicitation from Governor Tim Walz to kill U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith. Prosecutors have dismissed these claims as fantasy, though Thompson noted investigators found lists of politicians from Minnesota and other states, as well as attorneys.

The Hortmans’ funeral, attended by prominent political figures including former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, took place on June 28. Boelter was apprehended about 40 hours after the shootings following a massive manhunt.
