A Michigan man was shot and killed early Monday morning after opening fire on a U.S. Border Patrol station in McAllen, South Texas, injuring three individuals, including a McAllen police officer. The assailant, identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, believed to be 27 or 28 years old, attacked the federal building with an assault rifle, prompting Border Patrol agents to return fire, resulting in his death.

Among the injured is Ismael Garcia, a 10-year veteran of the McAllen police, who sustained a knee injury during the shootout and is currently recovering. Another officer and a Border Patrol employee also suffered injuries from shattered glass as bullets impacted the building.

Law enforcement found additional assault weapons and ammunition in Mosqueda’s vehicle. While spray-painted writing was observed on the vehicle, its connection to the attack remains unclear. Mosqueda was reported missing from a Weslaco address hours before the incident. The motive behind the attack is currently unknown, and authorities have not classified it as an act of terrorism at this time. The FBI has taken over the investigation due to the attack on federal officers and a federal facility. Flights at the nearby McAllen International Airport experienced delays as the area was secured.
