Durham County is now in recovery mode following unprecedented flooding caused by Tropical Depression Chantal. The storm, which hit Sunday night into Monday, led to severe inundation in northern Durham, particularly along the Eno River.

Emergency services conducted extensive water rescues, with 80 individuals saved by boat and dozens more evacuating on foot. Areas including Rippling Stream Road, High Meadow Road, Omega Road, Felicia Street, and Greymont Drive were significantly impacted, with vehicles submerged and the Eno River cresting past records set by Hurricane Fran in 1996.

While water rescue operations have concluded, damage assessment is ongoing across the affected regions. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. Neighboring Orange County also declared a state of emergency, reporting over 50 water rescues since Sunday evening due to the heavy rainfall.
