Former US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to the conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. However, Israel has not yet confirmed this agreement. Meanwhile, a Hamas official has indicated the group is “ready and serious” to reach a deal, provided it leads to a complete end of the war.

Trump shared the development on Truth Social, stating that Qatari and Egyptian mediators would deliver the final proposal. He urged Hamas to accept the deal, warning that conditions would not improve. While Trump did not detail the ceasefire’s specifics, he affirmed the US would “work with all parties to end the War” during the proposed truce.

The potential agreement hinges on critical demands from both sides. For Israel, the release of most, if not all, remaining hostages held in Gaza is paramount. Hamas, conversely, insists on a clear commitment to ending the conflict and a partial Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza for the ceasefire’s duration. The international community is also pushing for renewed full-scale UN-backed aid deliveries into the besieged territory.

The announcement comes ahead of a scheduled meeting next week between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where Trump has indicated he will be “very firm.” Netanyahu has previously maintained that “complete victory” over Hamas is necessary before ending the war, making his stance on this new proposal pivotal.

Amid these diplomatic efforts, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Recent reports indicate ongoing military actions, including evacuations in northern Gaza and an air strike on a seafront cafe earlier this week. The Hamas-run health ministry reported on June 28 that 408 people had been killed attempting to reach aid at US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) sites, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution.
