Netflix Games subscribers, brace yourselves for a significant library reduction. The streaming giant is preparing to remove a substantial 22 titles from its gaming service starting in July, a move estimated to impact 20% of its current game catalog.

Among the games slated for departure are highly acclaimed and beloved titles that have become synonymous with the platform. Fans will be particularly disappointed to see the critically lauded “Hades,” the stylish “Katana Zero,” the iconic “Monument Valley” series, and the educational adventure “Carmen Sandiego” exiting the service. Other notable removals include “Dumb Ways to Die” and “Braid, Anniversary Edition.”

The impending removals are largely attributed to license expirations, a common occurrence in subscription-based gaming services, much like the model seen with Apple Arcade. While the exact date in July has not been specified, players are advised to dive into these games now if they wish to experience them before they disappear.

Despite these significant losses, Netflix Games isn’t entirely shrinking. The platform is also gearing up for a fresh wave of new content, including major arrivals like the “WWE 2K” franchise (a natural fit given their broader partnership), “Rebel Moon: Bloodlines,” and “Yu Suzuki’s Steel Paws.” This influx of new titles aims to soften the blow of the departing games and keep the library dynamic.

There’s also a glimmer of hope for some of the removed titles. As seen with games like “Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon,” titles that leave a subscription service sometimes find their way back to mobile platforms or even return to the service in the future. For now, however, the focus is on enjoying these games while they are still available on Netflix Games.
