A nationwide Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals has resulted in a recall of Home Chef (Kroger) and Marketside (Walmart) products. The USDA’s FSIS and FDA investigations identified 17 illnesses, 3 deaths, and one fetal loss across 13 states (Aug 2024 – May 2025).

FreshRealm, Inc., the manufacturer, initiated a voluntary recall. While the company reports no direct illness reports tied to their product, an outbreak strain of Listeria was found in their facility during routine testing. Though the implicated lot was destroyed before distribution, the source of contamination remains under investigation.

Consumers are urged to discard or return recalled products. Listeria infection symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues. High-risk groups (pregnant women, elderly, immunocompromised) face severe complications, including fatal infections.

The investigation is ongoing; the FSIS is yet to pinpoint the specific contaminated ingredient. This highlights the critical need for robust food safety protocols across the supply chain.
