Federal agents deployed chemical crowd control measures and arrested at least six individuals on Saturday following a large protest march to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Portland. The demonstration, involving hundreds of participants, was fueled by opposition to the potential deployment of National Guard troops in the city.

Approximately 400 people, representing diverse ages and backgrounds including families with children and retirees, gathered. As chants echoed in front of the ICE facility around 2 p.m., a contingent of federal officers, donning gas masks, advanced into the crowd. They reportedly pushed some protesters and utilized less-lethal weapons to spray pepper balls, in addition to deploying tear gas canisters into the gathering.
