Munich Airport has resumed normal operations after drone sightings on Thursday evening forced air traffic control to halt all flights. The disruption led to the cancellation of 17 flights, affecting nearly 3,000 passengers, and diverted 15 arriving flights to other airports including Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna, and Frankfurt.

Police conducted an extensive search of the area, deploying a helicopter, but found no suspicious individuals or the origin of the drones. The incident occurred as Munich hosts its world-famous Oktoberfest, which is approaching its final weekend, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors daily.

German Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the drone incident as a ‘wake-up call,’ emphasizing the increasing challenge of drone threats and the need for greater funding, support, and research in drone defense at both national and European levels. This event follows similar temporary airport closures due to drone sightings in Denmark and Norway last week, highlighting a growing concern for aviation security across Europe.
