Federal aviation authorities are actively investigating a low-speed collision involving two Delta Air Lines regional jets that occurred Wednesday night on a taxiway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The incident, which resulted in injuries to one flight attendant and significant damage to both aircraft, has prompted a comprehensive review by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Delta.

According to initial reports, an Endeavor Air-operated Delta Connection jet, carrying 32 people and preparing for takeoff to Roanoke, Virginia, had its wing clip the fuselage of another Delta Connection aircraft, arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, with 61 people aboard. Audio from air traffic control suggests the Virginia-bound plane had been instructed to hold short and yield to the other aircraft prior to the impact.

A flight attendant was transported to a hospital after reporting a knee injury from the collision. While no passenger injuries were reported, images from the scene show a broken wing on one plane and a shattered cockpit window with a deeply gouged nose on the other. Delta has apologized for the incident, stating that safety remains their top priority, and confirmed that passengers from both planes were rebooked on flights departing Thursday.

The FAA is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, which raises questions about ground operations and situational awareness on busy airport taxiways. Experts note that while controllers manage overall traffic, pilots are also expected to maintain vigilance for other aircraft at slow speeds. Both Delta and Endeavor Air are cooperating fully with the ongoing inquiry.
