Amazon has officially unveiled its latest generation of Echo devices, fundamentally powered by its advanced AI assistant, Alexa+. This cutting-edge iteration of Alexa, which has already reached millions through an early access program, is designed to offer significantly enhanced capabilities and a more intuitive user experience.

The tech giant is launching four new Echo devices engineered to leverage Alexa+’s AI prowess, boasting improved processing power and memory. The lineup includes the Echo Dot Max, Echo Studio, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 11. These devices are pivotal in showcasing Alexa+’s ability to handle natural language conversations, respond to more complex queries, and will soon support an expanded ecosystem of add-ons and services.

A forthcoming Alexa+ Store will allow users to access services from popular brands such as Fandango, GrubHub, Lyft, Priceline, Taskrabbit, Thumbtack, and Yahoo Sports. Furthermore, the devices will seamlessly integrate with Amazon’s own services, including Amazon Music, Amazon Kids+, and Alexa Emergency Assist, enabling personalized Alexa experiences and subscription management.

Powering these new Echo devices are Amazon’s custom-designed silicon chips, the AZ3 and AZ3 Pro, each featuring an AI Accelerator for efficient on-device AI model processing. The AZ3 chip enhances conversation detection on the Echo Dot Max, allowing users to interact from anywhere in a room while effectively filtering background noise, and significantly improves wake word detection.

The Echo Studio, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 11 utilize the more powerful AZ3 Pro chip, which provides support for advanced language models and vision transformers. These AZ3 Pro-enabled devices also incorporate Ominisense, a proprietary ambient AI sensor platform. Utilizing a 13-megapixel camera on the new Echo Show devices, along with audio, ultrasound, Wi-Fi radar, accelerometer, and Wi-Fi CSI, Ominisense allows Alexa to proactively respond to events within the home, such as delivering reminders when specific individuals enter a room or alerting users to an open garage door.

The new Echo Dot Max, priced at $99.99, delivers nearly three times the bass for superior audio quality, featuring a two-way speaker with a woofer and a custom tweeter. The redesigned Echo Studio, at $219.99, is 40% smaller than its predecessor and includes a high-excursion woofer, spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, and an upgraded light ring for clearer visual feedback. Users can connect up to five Echo Studio or Echo Dot Max devices with compatible Fire TV sticks for an immersive home theater experience, with Amazon planning to offer Alexa Home Theater bundles.

Two new smart displays, the Echo Show 8 ($179.99) and Echo Show 11 ($219.99), feature updated designs, improved picture quality, 13-megapixel cameras, larger screens, new front-facing stereo speakers, and custom woofers, all driven by Alexa+ features. The AI assistant will also power Alexa+ Home, a new smart home experience combining event summaries from Ring camera feeds with a smart home hub that supports Matter, Thread, and Zigbee.

Beyond entertainment and home management, Amazon is partnering with Oura to integrate personalized health and wellness suggestions into Alexa devices, facilitating workout reminders or sleep nudges. Future support for devices from Withings and Wyze is also planned, further expanding Alexa+’s health capabilities.
