Southport, NC – Nigel Edge, accused of opening fire from a boat into a crowded waterfront bar over the weekend, appeared in court today facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder. The tragic incident at the American Fish Company resulted in three fatalities and left five others wounded, with one victim reportedly in critical condition.

Police say Edge, 41, drove his boat alongside the open-air dock-front bar Saturday night and began shooting. He was arrested approximately 30 minutes later by the Coast Guard after fleeing towards the Intracoastal Waterway. Authorities are calling the attack premeditated, though a clear motive has not yet been disclosed. Edge, who reportedly changed his name from Sean Debevoise, was known to law enforcement but had no significant prior record indicating such violence.

District Attorney Jon David noted that many of the victims were vacationers, not local community members. The American Fish Company has announced its indefinite closure, stating their hearts are broken for all affected. Officials have assured the public that Edge acted alone and there is no ongoing safety threat.
