Ryan Routh Convicted in Trump Assassination Plot, Attempts Self-Harm During Verdict Reading

Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, was found guilty on all five counts he faced on September 23rd in Fort Pierce, Florida. The verdict was immediately followed by a chaotic scene in the courtroom as Routh, 59, attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen.
The incident occurred as the jury exited, with some jurors reportedly witnessing the outburst. Routh was forcibly removed from the courtroom, during which his daughter, Sara Routh, shouted declarations of love and claims of injustice, leading to her own escort out of the room.
Despite the dramatic interruption, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon allowed Routh to return in shackles, informing him that his sentencing is scheduled for December 18th. Authorities confirmed the pen Routh used was designed not to inflict serious injury, resulting only in bruises or marks.
Routh, who represented himself, faced charges including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate and using a firearm in furtherance of a crime. Prosecutors alleged Routh meticulously planned to kill Trump, purchasing a military-grade weapon and conducting extensive research. Routh, however, maintained he lacked the intent to kill, despite conceding some prosecution allegations.
The jury reached their unanimous verdict after approximately two hours of deliberation, requesting only to view the rifle and ammunition used in the alleged plot. Routh now faces up to life in prison.
