The Nashua community continues to grapple with the aftermath of Saturday’s fatal shooting at Sky Meadow Country Club, as the alleged gunman, Hunter Nadeau, made his initial court appearance remotely on Monday. Meanwhile, the widow of Robert Steven DeCesare, the 59-year-old man killed in the incident, shared poignant memories of her husband, calling him “a hero” and emphasizing the outpouring of community support.

DeCesare was dining with his wife, Charlene, and daughter when he reportedly intervened to stop the shooter. He died from multiple gunshot wounds, while two other individuals were seriously injured but are expected to recover. Charlene DeCesare, in a statement read by country club owner Rob Parsons, expressed profound gratitude for the community’s solidarity. “The people of Sky are my heart right now, and I’m forever grateful,” she said, confirming her intention to remain in her Nashua home.

Hunter Nadeau, 23, who previously worked at the country club, waived formal arraignment and appeared via video conference from jail. He faces a second-degree murder charge, with additional charges anticipated for the other two victims. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for October 1. Prosecutors have not confirmed witness reports that the shooter exclaimed “Free Palestine” during the attack, stating the motive remains under investigation.

Authorities quickly apprehended Nadeau within 30 minutes of the Saturday evening shooting. The suspect’s past includes a misdemeanor assault charge from February, where he allegedly shoved a supermarket manager. Country club owner Rob Parsons lauded DeCesare as a hero, vowing that the community “will not let the cowardly acts of this perpetrator define us.” The club has received thousands of messages of support, reflecting the widespread impact and grief over the tragic event.
