FBI Confirms DNA Links Suspect to Charlie Kirk Murder, Pre-Shooting Note Revealed

FBI Director Kash Patel announced Monday that DNA evidence definitively links 22-year-old Tyler Robinson to the fatal shooting of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. Speaking on Fox News, Patel confirmed that DNA found on a towel wrapped around the suspected rifle and on a screwdriver recovered from the Utah Valley University (UVU) campus matches Robinson, who was arrested last Friday.
In a significant development, Patel also revealed that investigators have forensically confirmed the existence and content of a note allegedly written by Robinson prior to the shooting. The note reportedly stated, “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it,” indicating premeditation despite the note being destroyed at Robinson’s home.
The arrest of Robinson followed a two-day manhunt after Kirk’s killing at a UVU event. FBI co-deputy director Dan Bongino added that Robinson exhibited “multiple warning signs,” including detaching himself during political discussions and an apparent “obsession with Charlie Kirk,” based on family and friends’ statements and digital footprints.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated Sunday that Robinson is not cooperating with authorities, but additional information is being gathered from those close to him. Cox anticipates Robinson will be formally charged with Kirk’s murder on Tuesday.
Patel also took the opportunity to defend his agency’s handling of the high-profile case, which has drawn criticism, including his initial premature announcement of a suspect in custody. He emphasized the FBI’s transparency in eliminating non-involved targets and pursuing the actual suspect.
While the motive for Kirk’s killing remains unclear, the new DNA evidence and the revelation of the premeditated note mark crucial steps in the ongoing investigation.
