ICE Officer Kills Suspect in Chicago Suburb After Being Dragged by Car

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a suspect in Franklin Park, a Chicago suburb, on Friday after the individual attempted to evade arrest by driving a car at officers and dragging one of them, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed. The incident occurred during an ongoing ICE immigration enforcement operation dubbed “Midway Blitz.”
According to the department, officers were attempting to apprehend a man with a history of reckless driving. The suspect reportedly ignored orders and drove his vehicle towards the officers, striking and dragging one. Feeling his life was in danger, the officer discharged his weapon.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital, where the suspect was pronounced dead. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement supporting the officer’s actions, stating, “He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement.” McLaughlin also commented on the increased dangers faced by officers, citing “viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement.”
