The intense manhunt for the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA, has entered its third day. Authorities have released crucial new video footage of a person of interest and announced the recovery of what is believed to be the murder weapon, escalating efforts to apprehend the suspect.

Officials on Thursday evening released new video showing the suspected gunman climbing down from the roof of a Utah Valley University building in Orem. This is where authorities believe the fatal shot was fired at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, before the suspect fled the scene.

Adding to the significant developments, the FBI confirmed the recovery of a “high-powered bolt action rifle” in a wooded area near the shooting location. Law enforcement sources identified the weapon as an older model imported Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle, wrapped in a towel, with its location reportedly matching the suspect’s escape route.

The investigation has garnered widespread attention, with the FBI offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of Kirk’s killer. Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that authorities have already received over 7,000 tips and leads, completing some 200 interviews in their round-the-clock efforts.

Earlier images released by the Utah Department of Public Safety showed the person of interest on steps, carrying a black backpack and wearing a shirt with an apparent American flag print. Preliminary information also indicated that a spent cartridge and three unspent cartridges found with the recovered weapon contained wording described as “transgender and anti-fascist,” though investigators are still working to determine the meaning or if it was a misdirection.

Governor Cox has condemned the shooting as a “political assassination” and vowed that the state would pursue the death penalty if the case proceeds to trial. As vigils continue to be held for Kirk, officials remain dedicated to bringing the college-aged suspect to justice.
