Google is rolling out a significant update to Gmail, introducing a dedicated ‘Purchases’ tab designed to centralize and simplify the tracking of package deliveries. This new feature, announced by Google on Thursday, allows users to access all their purchase-related emails, including past orders and current shipments, in one convenient location.
The ‘Purchases’ tab enhances Gmail’s existing package-tracking capabilities, which first launched in 2022. While urgent deliveries arriving within 24 hours will still be prominently displayed at the top of inboxes, the new tab provides a comprehensive overview, eliminating the need to visit individual carrier websites. This update is expected to be particularly beneficial during peak shopping seasons, such as the upcoming holidays, as predicted by PwC’s 2025 holiday outlook.
Alongside the ‘Purchases’ tab, Gmail is also updating its ‘Promotions’ category. Users will soon be able to sort promotional emails by ‘most relevant,’ making it easier to discover deals and timely offers from preferred brands. Gmail will also proactively nudge users about upcoming sales, further enhancing the shopping experience within the app.
Both new features are rolling out globally to users with personal Google accounts. The ‘Purchases’ tab is available starting today on both mobile and web platforms, while the ‘Promotions’ category enhancements will begin appearing on mobile devices in the coming weeks.
